Remember "More Than a Feeling" by Boston? That's how I feel about Twin Falls, Idaho, in August.
Home is
summer sunflowers mixed with parched weeds in the barrow pit along the road
60-degree morning sunrises followed by 100-degree days
Windbreak-lined country roads that lead nowhere particular but always feel familiar
Miles and miles of irrigated fields giving their last before winter
Elephant ears and foot-long corndogs (and anything else deep fried) at "The Fair"
Still, beautiful, slightly cool nights along the fairway after the best rodeo around
Neatly manicured home gardens
Hope for young plants to hold out till the first frost hits
Eating tomatoes like apples with a salt shaker in one hand and juice dripping down your chin
I don't get home as often as I'd like, but even though it's over 800 miles away . . .
. . . southern Idaho will always hold a big piece of my heart.
