There's No Stopping Her Now

The magic of life begins to disappear as children grow older. One of my favorite magical moments of childhood is when the world of books and words unlocks for them--when they begin to understand that the circle in the alphabet has a name and that letter makes sounds that morph into words.

Eve is in that magical place. She loves all books and all words and will read anytime and anywhere and to anyone who will listen. Grandpa switched roles from the reader to the listener.
She even corrals her friends and reads to them. They aren't as patient with it as Grandpa is.
In a few short weeks, my baby will finish kindergarten and be a big first grade girl. That is so alien to me--no little kids any more. No beginning readers any more.

The magic of childhood is beginning to fade from the Sanatorium. This growing up stuff isn't for sissies. Where's Peter Pan when you need him?

  1. I love The Giving Tree! What a great photo of Dad and Evie!! How fun to see her love reading like your other kiddos.

    1. I was wondering if anyone would recognize the book she was reading to Dad. Leave it to my librarian sister!
