A mother held her new baby and very slowly rocked him back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. And while she held him, she sang:
At nighttime, when he was asleep, the mother would quietly open the door of his room, stand in the doorway and look up over the side of his bed. If that great big man was really asleep she would want to pick him up and rock him back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. And while she would have rocked him she would have sung:
(adapted from Robert Munsch's Love You Forever)
Today is the wedding. I am so happy. Many tears will be shed today. Most will be of joy.
Love you, T. As long as I'm living . . .
Love,
Mom
I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
As long as I’m living
my baby you’ll be.
The baby grew.
He grew and he grew and he grew.
He grew until he was a grown-up man.
