Introducing the Newest Member of Our Family

I'd like you to meet Steven.

Steven is Micah's cello.

Micah's orchestra teacher encouraged each of the kids to name their instruments.

Micah didn't hesitate when I asked him what name he had chosen.

"Steven."

Why Steven?

"Duh, Mom.  Steven Sharp Nelson!"

In case you don't know Steven Sharp Nelson's music, here is a video of their Star Wars theme.  It's my boys' favorite.

When I googled the original Steven this morning, I discovered that Mr. Nelson also names his instruments--you can find all of his cellos and their bios here. It's pretty clever.

I was skeptical of the whole "naming your instrument" thing, but it has made an instant bond between Micah and his instrument.  I guess that music teacher knows a little bit more than I do.  Imagine that!

One of the funniest things about Micah's and Steven's relationship is how Steven gets to school twice a week.

 Micah's backpack becomes a front pack.  Lunch box around his head.  Steven strapped to his back.

Today he even had to take that long tube containing his ELP project. 

Or maybe it's a light saber bow. If those were real, that would be so cool.
