Normally the first morning of school is all sunshine and roses and rainbows.  For the first time EVER at the Sanatorium, it was hard.  Hyrum had a meltdown over what I would allow him to wear (as it what matches and what doesn't), then he had a meltdown that I had made a breakfast cake and he refused to eat it and I refused to let him leave before he ate it and his honeydew melon and he snuck it into the trash and thought he had gotten away with it until I found it and forced him to go to school with a full stomach even if I had pulled it out of the trash (it was on the top and not contaminated--sue me).  Finally the boys ran out the door just before the warning bell rang.  Lucky for them we only live one house away from the school. As they left I said a silent prayer for Hyrum's teacher.  Good luck with that one.

Seventh grade--so big and new and scary.  I offered to drive the girls to school for the first day, and they couldn't have looked any cuter or been any more excited if they'd tried.
All day I wondered how they were doing and what they were doing and if they were being obedient.  As 1:45 got closer and closer, my gaze kept wandering to the back door, looking for the little boys.

Hyrum burst into the house, huge smile plastered to his face.  He ran to me, jumped into my arms, squeezed me with his arms and legs and yelled in my ear, "I LOVE KINDERGARTEN!  I LOVED IT!"  Now that's a relief.
The others all came back with less glowing but still positive reports.

It's going to be a good year, I can feel it.

  3. I love how you do this, with their stats and likes, etc. I really need to do that too. However, I was amused to note that Micah, who is what, nearly 8, weighs 53 lbs. and Hyrum weighs 39 lbs. whilst my Maggie weighs 56 lbs. in kindegarten. YIKES!

  5. What teacher could resist those smiles? I'm glad it was a good day. First day isn't until the day after Labour Day here, so there's a while yet.
