Foto Friday--The Jam Had to Wait

Once every two weeks all summer our backyard transforms from grass to glass--still, enticing, cool irrigation water meant to nourish the yard.  Kids and animals alike can't resist it.
Boys stripped down to their skivvies, frolicking in the water.
Lots of laughing.  Lots of racing.
Evie tried to keep up with the brothers, but the water was over her knees in places.  I love this picture.  Is there anything funnier than a two-year-old running--chubby arms and short legs pumping as fast as they can?
I swear I do her hair most days.

After laps and laps in the yard, everyone started scooping water into the sandbox, making moats, rivers, lakes, and especially mud.
Everyone gets in on the fun, even Roxy.  As much as I have a love/hate relationship with her, my favorite thing to do is watch her speed across the water-filled yard.  She has more fun than the kids.
Covered in grass bits and mud.  Laughing and playing together.  It was worth the mess, and worth stepping out of the kitchen for a little while.  Often I get caught up in projects and lists and forget to enjoy these small moments in their lives--I'm glad I took the time to play with them.

Have a fantastic weekend.  It's supposed to hit 100 for the first time this year on Saturday.  Can you say pool party?

  6. 100 in April? Yikes...although I know I'm going to miss that blistering heat. Especially in England, where they're supposed to experience the coldest, wettest May in 60 years. My suitcase just got heavier.

  7. Your kids are just pure joy with all of that water - Roxy too! It reminds of being a little girl visiting my grandpa in Utah and the water that would pour over the yards and gutters when it was irrigation day. I'd never seen anything like that back then - so much fun on a hot day!
