This is my favorite lens.
Canon 52 mm 1:1.8
Let me rephrase that.
This was my favorite lens.
Let me set the stage:
Lily's class play--
I was packing up all my stuff after the performance, and Evie (darling, sweet Evie) was throwing a fit while I attempted to put the cameras back in the bag. A swift jolt from Evie, and it was either the bag or the baby.
I chose to save the baby.
I've always wanted to see the inner workings of a lens.
Just not the inner workings of my own lens.
Any Canon owners out there? Best replacement for my 50 mm?

thank goodness you chose baby! May your lens rip ... and i hope you find a new one to love and play with soon!
ReplyDeleteOUch that one hurts!
ReplyDeleteoooooh, this pains me ... my primary lens (as in, 98% of the time) is my 50mm ... I have a 50mm/1.4 and it was worth every single penny - love it love it love it!! soooo sorry for your loss :(
ReplyDeleteOh dear - I have had a moment or two like that with breakable items on one hand and child in the other. No contest, but lots of breakage!
ReplyDeleteBummer. Glad you chose to save the one you could replace.
ReplyDeleteBummer! But at least you made the right choice:))
ReplyDelete85mm prime. It will cost more but it is worth it!
ReplyDeleteOh honey...I can feel your pain. Must have been a tough choice.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame to break your lens but maybe a chance to try something else?
ReplyDeleteGlad the baby was OK, they can be pretty wiggly at times.
So sorry! We have a Canon Rebel XT (so it's old:)) and I don't know anything about lenses!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. *hanging head in sympathy* But you had to save the baby. It was the right thing to do.
ReplyDeleteAw, that's a drag.
ReplyDeleteBut you did the noble thing.
;)
Same thing happened to my lens this summer - I sent it in to have it repaired, but it was an expensive lens and my favorite - 17-55mm. I don't think I've taken it off my camera since I got it two years ago!
ReplyDeleteHaving a little dejavu here... Watched my 80-200 1.8 fly from my hand and land on a boulder in Iceland in super slo mo...one of the saddest days of my life...
ReplyDeleteNo suggestions here....I'm still the only one in blogland without an slr. :(
ReplyDeleteNo idea...but Im hoping to learn a bit more about my camera from a site called Chimpsy. Check it out.
ReplyDeleteSo sad...tell us what you decide on.
You made the right choice but I'm sorry you broke the lens.
ReplyDeleteLosing a lens is soooo traumatic!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain, but I am a Nikon girl and have no suggestions!!!
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your lens. Glad everyone is alright. I hope you are able to find a nice replacement.
ReplyDeleteOH! I had to go lay down after I read that.
ReplyDeleteI am drooling over a 50mm and have yet to get one.
Evie....well, she is pretty stinkin' cute. Glad you saved her.
Oh dear...I'm sorry about your lens. You'll have fun telling that story to her husband someday.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks about your lens. At least it gave you blog material :-)
ReplyDeleteOh that's just too bad, and yes the baby comes first...but oh the heartache, at least you got photos first...now you'll just have to possibly repair this one? Camera folks should know...also, those moving photos of Tucker are just awesome. Especially the very calm and cool look then his giggle face and on and on...so cool, a very handsome son! good luck with your camera lens ....sending good thoughts your way!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Poor lens...makes me sad to see a lens that's been damaged but it's a good thing you chose Evie over it though since a fallen baby would hurt your heart so much more than a broken lens.
ReplyDeleteSame exact thing happened to my 50mm. I was told that it cost more to fix it than it would to just replace it with another one. It also depends on what series the lens is. Mine, fortunately, was the cheapest 50 mm lens that I could get. Also, I was going to tell you. I have a friend who's a FANTASTIC photographer. She's taught me SO much about photographs and my camera. She's holding her annual class if you're interested. Email me with your email and I'll forward her newsletter onto you. (My email is jasonanddiana(at)gmail.com) Her classes are AMAZING! I think you would REALLY enjoy it and ALL of the questions that you have mentioned on your blog would for sure be answered! :o)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you chose the baby! I bet new lenses are expensive!
ReplyDeletehehe!
i bet you had one of those slow mo 'NOOOOOOOO' moments too huh!
ReplyDeleteif we had extra arms i bet you could have saved both
R.I.P. lens.... Glad baby is okay though...
ReplyDeleteThat just stinks though... May your searching for a replacement turn out well...
Great post for the letter "K"!
