The forecast promises temperatures below 100 this week, so I pulled out the fall decorations. One thing I detest about AZ is the lack of fall--no sweater weather, no falling leaves. Nothing. But at least I can make it look like it's crisp outside.
Here's a look at my living room mantel. It's hard to get a good shot of the entire fireplace, since it's partially blocked by an enormous black piano.
My goal this fall was to buy no new items and see what I could do. I almost made it--the only thing I bought was the berry sprigs--a rope of about 100 sprigs for $17.99, and they've made an appearance just about everywhere in the house.
I wrapped a few around candles, tucked another few under vases. I used my burlap scraps from my guest room curtains (described here) as a makeshift mantel scarf, and I love the texture.
I asked for a little photography assistance in this post, and I listened. I read the first few lessons on 3 Boybarians, I messed with the shutter speed, and I used my 50 mm lens. I couldn't be happier.

This old scale may be my new favorite thing--that and my 50 mm lens.
Who would have thought I already had all this cuteness in my fall decorations and in my tchotchke closet (closet described here)? Linking up to My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia and Sugar Bee Take-a-Look Tuesday.
Very awesome Fall decorations!
ReplyDeleteI love the burlap.
It makes it look even more Fallish.
I really should skip Fall decorations and go right to Christmas. It's supposed to snow on Friday. Hard to believe since it was 84 today.
I'm wanting a 50mm lens now.
Thank you very much.
love it!! and finally it's fall here in new england! only in the 50's and 60's!!
ReplyDeleteamazing jen!!

Everything looks fantastic. I am using your mantel as a guideline to do mine. :))
ReplyDeleteI have an old scale kinda like that too. . .and I love it!
ReplyDeletegreat job and the photography! Darcy explains it all so well, I think!
I always leave your blog inspired! Thanks again, Jen! Your mantel is truly "FALL"! When I lived in Phx., I could actually smell the change in the air--and that alone gave me hope that the unrelenting heat was subsiding for a beautiful winter. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Love the little orange pitcher, and the sign in the middle. I wish it was warm here...supposed to drop 30 degrees by Friday...brrrr

ReplyDeleteGorgeous mantel! Your photos look great! I lived in SoCal for 40 years and still can't get into the Fall season. I am enjoying wearing my new boots, though!
ReplyDeleteThe holidays make me wish I had a fireplace mantel. It was 91 here on Friday. Supposed to be in the 50's by this Friday. How crazy is that?!
ReplyDeleteThat scale is pretty awesome. I think my 50mm has left my camera once since buying it.
ReplyDeletei usually allow myself one new fall treat (house item) a yr ...if it's under 9 bucks....this year...? my glass pumpkin jar...$4.99 at target. it's already been filled w/goodies twice since the 1st haha
ReplyDeleteGreat fall stuff.
ReplyDeleteAnd great shots of it, too!
=)
PS. It has finally turned cool here. At last!
Your mantle looks great and so festive. I am so far behind. I haven't even done my spring cleaning...much less started thinking about decor for fall. At least it is getting cooler over here!
ReplyDeleteI really love this. Especially the D and the scale. All so well put together.
ReplyDeleteYour Fall decor looks lovely. Your photos are lovely, and I really admire your blog header and the family photo on the mantel. I have a vintage scale that is fun to decorate with too.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the photography! I'm trying so hard to learn, but its still hit and miss. Katie is selling a 50mm lens I think I'll buy.
ReplyDeleteSo cute. I need to get my fall/halloween stuff out!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful Fall mantel (and family)! I love that you added a scale to your vignette ... awesome elements you've used (big fan of burlap, too)! *Becca* (new follower by way of My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia)

Great mantel. I love the orange Fiestaware pitcher. And just about everything else in the photo.
ReplyDeleteI really think that one of the best articles is this one. It has everything. I needed this information to prove wrong my teacher. I knew this was happening. But my teacher did not agree with me. Now, he'll know I was right! Thank you!
