Latest Mesa Auction treasure update:
I've had my eye on a Louis XV chair forever. I love the lines and the proportions and the cushion and everything about it. Here's one from Ballard Designs (image from here):

Isn't it divine? Problem? This chair, with a fantastic fabric, is over $700. Ouch. That's why I've never bought one.
When I was at the auction, I joined the bidding for this little lady, and bought her for a mere $40.
Very sturdy, very well made. Not my favorite fabric. I went to the fabric store in search of something, didn't know what. This yellow jacquard, as it turns out, had been mismarked, and I got it for $5.39 a yard. YAHOO!
I sprayed the chair white, then dropped her off at my upholsterer. And this is what I got in return:
I love it love it love it! And for under $200. I was going to make a cushion for the back, but I snagged this pillow off Evie's bed to judge the width, and I love it there.
What do you think? I've got two more projects to show you next week, then I'll reveal the whole hobby room. You can't wait, can you?

You scored girl. It is lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a find! I LOVE it!!
ReplyDeletefantastic. urs is even better than the one you originally wanted! sweet!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! We bought one very similar to that one a few years ago. It was upholstered with a hideous silk green check. We had it done over with some really gorgeous fabric and it's the showstopping piece in our living room! I love finding ugly duckling treasures.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. I love the white and yellow, plus the pillow makes it look perfect. Very nice, very nice indeed.

I would have looked at that chair and not seen the potential. You are amazing.
ReplyDeleteHope Evie doesn't mind her pillow stolen. Poor little thing.
However, it does look fantastic there.
I'm excited to see what you pop up with next!
Where is this chair living? And what do you mean hobby room? What room is left to be a hobby room? Clearly I need to come over. That said.....love your chair. I scored two very similar chairs for 35 bucks a piece and I can't WAIT to recover them, so they're not hideous and stained in my living room. Did you use straight white spray paint, or did you use the heirloom white? Do tell. I'm trying to figure out which color to use.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! I am so impressed. That chair is amazing!!
ReplyDelete=)
these are my favorite posts of yours! I'm SOOOO envious of that chair! I love the Ballard stuff but yes...too expensive for that chair! I love your chair more!! Can't wait to see more!!
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! And my favorite part is that you are not, in addition to everything else, also an amazing seamstress who did all of the re-upholstery yourself :)
