I attempted to document our family night last night. I have a wild family, and they were NOT in the mood to cooperate, Tucker leaving or not.
I wanted to measure the four little kids next to his big suitcase so we could see how much they grow over these next two years. I couldn't even get them all in focus.

I wanted to see if the two boys grew over the next two years, so I thought the best gauge would be their dad. I did get this shot:
. . . but only after I took a dozen like this one:
And it's hard enough to get this many people to sit still and look in one direction for a photo:
I tried my best to edit out Ben's bunny ears, courtesy of his sister, but I couldn't get it in focus. It's a good thing I love them all or I may have been crying.

These kind of family photos are the best!! I'll bet your missionary wants copies to take with him--so he can show everyone in NY how awesome his family back home is!
ReplyDeleteI love Evie in the first one. . .its like she is sorta saying Who are these crazy people!?! as long as she has her pacifier, life is good!
ReplyDeleteAt least you tried.
ReplyDeleteBut these are the best kind of pictures! Love them!
ReplyDeletehahaha :) When I noticed Lily doing the bunny ears, I called her out, but then she started on all the other poses... Oh well. It was fun :) And thanks for letting me be there to see him one last time.
ReplyDeletethe title of your post is pretty much perfect. ;)
ReplyDeletei need laughing gas on picture day when i'm trying to do the group. shesh!
ReplyDeleteyou did a great job! loved the suitcase photo...esp little evie! hahaha she'll love you for it one day! :o)
Your family pictures are going to be the entree to many investigators for Tucker. Especially the funny ones.
ReplyDeleteI bet you will end up loving the goofy ones down the road better anyway. What a great idea with the suitcase. Hopefully time will pass by very quickly for you.
ReplyDeleteDana
I love your uncooperative family photos.
ReplyDeleteAnd your cooperative ones, too.
(It's hard to miss with YOUR fam.)
;)
And that is keeping it real! I love it! I have have garnered many similar shots over the years in futile attempts to get a family photo. But, to be honest, I love looking back at the wackiness of my boys and seeing their humor. To me, that is a real family photo!

loved your idea with putting the kids next to ben's suitcase, that's fabulous! i think their energy is very endearing in that shot, you'll smile when you come back to it 2 years from now ;-)
ReplyDeletethinking of you this week for sure ...
Love the pictures, they will bring more smiles than perfectly posed ones any day! But I understand your frustration, and applaud your restraint!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great day celebrating Tucker's birthday. Are you going to post his letters or pictures on a blog? I'd love to hear how he's doing.
Those are hilarious! AND I think they should be the ones on the wall. That is what everyone loves the best.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the goodbyes. It's OK to have a VERY good cry. You certainly deserve it!
These are the best kind of pictures! They document the true family and you'll cherish them forever!
ReplyDeleteI think the photos you got are much more fun and interesting than straight and proper portraits. Your pictures tell WHO your family is, and that's so much better. But I get it: a mother just wants one decent picture once in awhile - is that too much to ask?
ReplyDeleteThese will be the best document of your family ... I hope you printed off a bunch for your son to take with him. I was amazed how much I missed my family while I was gone.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gabe,Evie looks so go with the flow!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great family moment, bunny ears and all!
have a happy night
Oh I love her in her diaper inside the suitcase. So funny.
ReplyDeleteWe are only a family of four and I know how hard that is to capture a decent photo of all of us. I can't imagine how much pacifying I'd need after trying to capture all of yours. :)
ReplyDeleteseriously, YOU ROCK.
ReplyDeleteSweet baby, she looks like her momma. Tucker did an awesome job on his talk Sunday. Was late cause I had to teach but I enjoyed every min of his talk in the hallway. He sounds so ready to work for the Lord as a missionary. Congrats on 2 amazing milestones...
ReplyDeleteOh, your photos had me laughing so hard! Especially the first one! Evie with her missing shoe and wearing nothing but her nappies looked like she just realized that you guys stuck her in a suitcase :) Too funny!
