Yesterday I mentioned a hair cut--in passing. Yet, that hair cut may have been the most dramatic occurrence of the weekend.
This is before:
I was blessed/cursed with the straightest hair in the world. So straight. Stick straight. Except for one cowlick right in the middle in the front. Growing up, I always had a perm (some good, some horrible). I always fought against its straightness.
Then, in 2001, I gave up the perm for good. And I've stayed stick-straight ever since.
I've been going to the same stylist for four years. And I love her. There is something about having someone you trust doing your hair. My hair may be straight, and it may be extremely thin, but it does have one thing going for it--it grows uber fast. So fast that stylists comment in surprise. Because if its hyper-growing capabilities, I never stress about a cut. Why? Because hair grows back.
So, long story long, I was so sick of my hair, and Debbie and I sat down with a few magazines to find something new. At almost the same moment we found the almost identical cut. And I decided to go for it. Why? Because hair grows back.
Here's an after picture:
a little bit a lot. Does it really look like this, and I don't know it?
Or is it just not as dramatic as it feels to me?
A side note: no perm involved. That is actually 45 minutes with a strange new curling iron and gallons of spray and gel. And 45 minutes struggling with a cast. Luckily, it's a great cut, and today I have it straight again.
I love the curly, I just don't know if it's worth it.
I need answers and opinions. And that's why I come to you. What do you think? Am I crazy like a fox or just plain crazy? Honesty, please. I can take it.
Remember, hair grows back.

What? You can't see it? Here's another:
What? That's the back? Sorry. How about the side?
Can you see the difference? In case you can't, here's another before shot:
Super straight. After:
Why so much drama and contrast? Here's why: I only had one person say anything about it at Church. Only one. And that makes me wonder Or is it just not as dramatic as it feels to me?

as someone who recently got a perm and then cut the whole thing off, I say your temporary curls are fantastic. 45 minutes will soon become 15 minutes and once your cast is off it will be 10! I think it is worth it.
ReplyDeletefor the record, when I cut a 10 inches of permed hair off and dyed it RED, only two people in church noticed for the first three weeks. SUddenly everyone notices after I feel like it is old news. So keep at it!
ok lovin the hair short! you can def wear it momma! love it straight and wavy!
ReplyDeleteOkay...since no one has commented, that's not a good sign. So I guess I'll be the first. Now remember, you asked for honesty. I don't think that's the cut for you. It not as bad as Belatrix, that's for sure, but I do like the before better than the after.
ReplyDeleteNow I say this with total empathy because, as you know, I just paid $83.00 to have my cut and color done and I HATE HATE HATE it. Way too short and color didn't work out so well. The thing that is so frustrating is that my hair was nice and long and just needed a trim and nothing more. Yet, I had to go and mess with it.
Here's my unprofessional opinion. Let your hair grow out all one length (no bangs) and have an A-Line cut (a little longer in the front). Embrace the straight hair is what I'm saying I guess. Mine is exactly the same.
love it Jen. . .really!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about the 45 minutes part though. . .but as long as you can have days when you don't have to fuss and it still looks good.
I haven't had my hair cut in almost a year and I am going in next week. .. I can't wait, its so very long, maybe I will cut it all off an donate it!
I think the curls are fun for a change. Not sure I'd be willing to do all the prep, though!
ReplyDelete=)
I think it's super cute :) It's so fun to be brave with your hair every once in a while!
ReplyDeleteSEXY!! I think it's so stylish! LOVE the curls! I think you will be able to cut down on the time once your cast is off and of course you will just get quicker over time. I think it would be worth it every few days to spend the time. When I spend a little extra time on my hair (maybe once a week!) I feel like I walk a little taller! I'm just too lazy to work with it everyday!
ReplyDeleteI love the new style...but until your cast comes off I'm sure the curls won't be an every day occurance! haha! But I think the curls are very stylish as is the cut! I'm sure it looks cute straight as well & is much easier it sounds. My mom always had me thinking that same thing, "it always grows back" and I only ever once got upset about a haircut & it right before my wedding so I think that is why!
ReplyDeleteAs one of the people who hadn't made a comment I must say I wanted to tell you I loved the new do, but you know how the day goes.... you and Evie skipped out early from both SS and RS and when I saw you in the hall at the end, I was already talking to Liesl about her big news. I offer all that to explain I did notice. I did like. I thought it was a perm. The curls were fun. Can't wait to see the cut done straight and see what I think. I had also wanted to ask how Heidi was feeling. And lastly, I have always been jealous of your quick grow hair! See ya Thursday morning.
ReplyDeletelove your hair! oh girl!My hair is STICK straight too! I have some horror stories with perms! And pictures sadly to prove it!heehee!
ReplyDeleteHave a pretty day!
Kristin
I think it's fun, and sassy. I personally will always love the super short, angular cut you did last year or 2 years ago, I think it looks amazing on you. But this is still really cute.
ReplyDeleteYou're already married. Why try?
ReplyDeleteIt looks GREAT!!! I seriously love it! It's fun to change it up sometimes, and you're right...it grows back.
ReplyDeleteI have thick curly hair, and there are days that I would give anything for thin straight hair. You can do so many different styles. If I cut my hair too short I end up with a red afro!
It really does look good Jen. LOVE IT! (but I love Tuckers comment even more :)
I think it's really cute & stylish (and so was your outfit-was that Sunday?). I hope the 45 minutes shortens when you get the cast off!
ReplyDeleteI have to echo Allyson's comment that I also loved your short do a couple years ago. I think you are lucky to be able to pull off however you wear it. Not everyone can do that!
I vote for the curls. But truthfully, you look great either way.
ReplyDeleteOkay now I feel bad, I was the only one that didn't care for that cut on you.
ReplyDeleteI like the curls, but probably if your hair was longer. Short hair is too darn much work to style and if you don't style it it doesn't look good. I'm still voting for the before, but I like the comment that someone else said, "You look good either way".
And as for Tucker's comment...Ha!That's the advice we are all going to give your wife right after you get married.
I have to say that I really like it. It's cute and sassy, and I can see that straight would be a good look too. I love when you can do more than one look with a cut. I think you scored BIG with this one. And it proves a huge point: most people don't notice anything unless it somehow involves them, no matter how huge the change. They may feel that something is different but they can't quite put their finger on it...
ReplyDeleteIt's super cute short! :)
ReplyDeletecrazy like a foxy lady! Love the curls...but the 45 min. Oh no! You'll get faster or you'll love it straight, right!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute new doo!
I absolutely love it!!!! Hoping your prep time will get shorter with practice and minus the cast.
ReplyDeleteBarb
I love it - but I also have straight, thin hair and like the no-fuss method in the morning. I just never can take the time.
ReplyDeleteYou are adorable!
Oh. My. Gosh. I have not laughed out loud for real at a blog in FOREVER. THANK YOU!!!!!! I needed that.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love it curly! Big difference. If I had been at church there would have been shouts of joy and uber congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you haven't had raves over it. I love the soft curs. It took ten years off... maybe fifteen : ) What does hubs think. That's what always matters the most to me.
ReplyDeleteDana
Still loving my change!
I totally sympathize with "only one person noticed" I recently cut my hair shorter than it has been in 22 yrs and only one person commented! I think the curls make you look younger, I agree with the others that you will get quicker with practice and w/o the cast. But it is great that you can wear it straight or for fancy days go curly. It almost gives me some courage to try to curl my super stick straight hair, maybe someday!
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot. The curls are great and you can have them when you have the inclination and the time. Change is good....and hair grows back.
ReplyDeleteYou look great either way. Nice to have options though. My hair is way too long now so I am getting the nerve up to chop. Yours is so cute.
ReplyDeletelove it. thinking of doing the same after I drop these last EIGHT pounds of BABY WEIGHT!! uugh. We have the same hair..stick straight with a cowlick. We are so lucky.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who also got cursed with the stick straight hair,(who's side does this come through?) I LOVE the curls!! What is the strange curling iron that you mentioned? I want one! So cute!! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteJen, I really like it -- a little body is good for you. You have a nice angular face, so I think straight or wavy totally looks nice. I definitely couldn't manage 45 minutes (5 minutes is about all I can handle - lol), but if you don't mind, I say stick with it! And like some of the others said, once that cast comes off, it'll cut down on the time dramatically. :)
ReplyDeleteCurly is sassy and feminine. I like it. But, I'm with you about the 45 minute thing. That's just not me. I couldn't do it. Curly is super cute, though.
ReplyDeleteWay Cute with the waves. I, too, have embraced the strait factor, and given up on the perms, but it's a good reminder that I COULD have curls, if I were willing to put in the time to do it.
ReplyDeleteCute.
I love the curls and am a fan of the "messy" look! Someone recently told me that the more texture in the hair we have, the less people will notice the texture (wrinkles) in the face. So you know I'm going to make sure I keep my layers and curls now. :)
ReplyDeleteBeing a person who loves getting hair cuts, I think your hair looks fabulous :) I actually really like the curls too because they give you spunk. But then again, if the curling takes too long to do, you find find that it's easier to just keep it straight just because you've already got your hands full with kids and all :)
ReplyDeleteI have no words to appreciate this post ..... I'm really impressed with this post .... the person who created this post was a big thank you man .. for sharing with us.

These are things that you could not survive without. They include, of course, food, water and shelter. Even here, these should be at a minimum. Thanks.

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
